President's Message

Navigating Change Together

Jennifer MacMillan, EA

Summer 2025, President's Message, advocacy

It is a true honor to write to you as the new president of the National Association of Enrolled Agents (NAEA). I step into this role with deep appreciation for our association’s legacy and great optimism about our shared future—even as that future brings profound change to our profession. I am grateful for the hard work of scores of past leaders who built such a solid foundation for the NAEA…and I will do my best to live up to their standards.

The tax landscape continues to evolve rapidly. From shifting regulatory frameworks to the integration of new technologies, the challenges we face are real…but so are the opportunities. In times like these, clarity, connection, and trusted guidance become more important than ever.

That’s exactly what our association provides.

One of the things that sets us apart is our commitment to advocacy. We are a strong and respected voice in Washington, DC, representing enrolled agents (EAs) with conviction, credibility, and consistency. Our work in the policy arena helps ensure that our profession is understood, valued, and protected. That kind of influence doesn’t just happen; it’s the result of years of strategic engagement and the power of our collective voice.

But for our voice to grow louder, we need to grow stronger. That means expanding our membership and building awareness of the extraordinary value enrolled agents bring to the table. Every one of us has a role to play. Whether you’re mentoring a peer, speaking in your community, or simply sharing the benefits of membership with a colleague, you are helping shape the future of our profession.

Communicating the value of what we do—both as tax professionals and as an association—must be an organization-wide effort. It’s time to tell our story with pride and purpose. We all worked hard to attain our status as enrolled agents, and we should all be promoting the profession at every opportunity. Yes, explaining what the “EA” after your name means can get time-consuming and sometimes feel awkward, but it’s important to get the word out. When we speak as one, people listen.

In the months ahead, you’ll see new initiatives aimed at amplifying that message, supporting your professional growth, and creating more opportunities for collaboration and leadership. We are here to help you navigate the turbulence—and thrive in it.

Thank you for your trust, work, and continued commitment to excellence. I’m excited to serve and work alongside you and the exceptional board of directors you elected for this governance year. I look forward to building a future that honors our past and embraces the promise of what’s ahead.
