President's Message

New Year, New Changes Coming to the National Association of Enrolled Agents

Cynthia Leachmoore, EA

Spring 2024, President's Message, practice management

Cynthia Leechmore, EAIn this new year, I want to express our heartfelt gratitude to all those who took the time to vote in December and make their voices heard. Your participation in the decision-making process has been instrumental in shaping the future of our organization. By casting your votes, you have helped us make a historic shift to become a more vibrant and connected community for both current and future members.

We would also like to extend our warmest congratulations to the newly elected officers and directors for this year. Your dedication and commitment to serving our organization will undoubtedly contribute to its growth and success.

Our membership passed three important bylaw changes: the reduction of the 30-hour continuing professional education (CPE) requirement to that required under Circular 230; the recission of the National Association of Enrolled Agents (NAEA) dual membership requirement; and the establishment of an NAEA chapter model as an alternative to the affiliate structure.

These changes reflect our commitment to adapt and evolve with the changing needs of our members. By reducing the 30-hour CPE requirement, we allow members greater flexibility in meeting their educational needs.

Similarly, by removing the dual membership requirement with the NAEA, we aim to foster a more open environment where professionals can choose their affiliation to NAEA, their affiliate, or to both, based on their individual preferences and goals.

Additionally, introducing the NAEA chapter model as an alternative brings forth exciting possibilities for affiliates. This innovative structure allows affiliates to elect becoming chapters without the burden of governance responsibilities and with a simplified single membership dues system. Instead of being weighed down by administrative tasks and governance obligations, chapters can focus on what truly matters – fostering meaningful connections and driving impactful initiatives within their communities.

These changes mark significant milestones in our journey towards building a stronger and more inclusive community. We are excited about what lies ahead as we continue working together toward creating an organization that truly serves its members’ best interests.

Once again, thank you for your active participation in shaping these important decisions. Your continued support is invaluable as we strive to make our organization even better for everyone involved.
